“What it takes to survive
is more than an emergency
blanket, a fire starter, and a
hatchet. It requires recognizing your
self, after someone has tried to
blur your divine image.”
from “Survivor/ship” in “spilling the light” by Theresa I. Soto

As the Director of Community Engagement at HopeWorks, I am privileged and honored to work each day for a mission that means so much to me.

Grounded in transformative cultural change, the Community Engagement team addresses the root causes of sexual and intimate partner violence through primary prevention efforts, tertiary prevention programs, building awareness and cultivating community leadership.

To accomplish our goals, we use an anti-racism/anti-oppression analysis and framework; enabling us to address and decrease the root causes of sexual and intimate partner violence, as well as the systems that fuel genocide, racism, transphobia, poverty, xenophobia, ableism, and other forms of oppression.

We support and partner with others doing anti-oppression work, efforts to achieve healthier relationships and a society where all people are valued.

Your donations help to support educational programs like:
• Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Trainings
• Teen Dating Violence Prevention Workshops
• Addressing Violence in the Workplace
• Inspiration & Social Justice Events
• Parenting for Peace Workshops

We also provide services to survivors, such as:
• Reclamation: self-care and support for adult survivors of child sexual abuse
• The Wellness Locker
• Preservation Circle: self-care and support for trauma survivors
• LOVED: a survivor self-care circle for Black Women
• “Wellness Grants” for survivors to address the long-term health effects of trauma

Please join me in helping HopeWorks create a world free from violence and abuse! It is not a cliche´ to say "no donation is too small to make a difference."

"There is never time in the future in which we
will work out our salvation.
The challenge is in the moment;
the time is always now."
-James Baldwin

Any amount you can give helps HopeWorks continue to provide life-changing services to people seeking safety, and prevention programs that benefit our entire community.

HopeWorks is an enormous blessing in our lives! It is no small thing to have somewhere to take the unique forms of suffering we endure. And it is no small thing to receive such a broad spectrum of skilled care. HopeWorks is an oasis for many of us. Thank you, Vanita, for holding us all in your beautiful vision. Thank you for your tireless care and concern. Thank you for radiating boundless Light. And thank you for your loving care, expressed in so very many ways.

I am so grateful for the services of Hopeworks as there are few trauma informed programs such as this for women that is so very welcoming and which provides so much support and care. I don't know how I would have survived the pandemic without this support and I am honored be able to contribute. Thanks to Vanita and her staff for programs that help me rediscover life after a rough, rough patch (actually a string of rough patches.) I'm still here!
