In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, I'm participating in HopeWorks of Howard County's Purple Challenge. I've set an ambitious fundraising goal of $3,000 because HopeWorks is facing real financial challenges this year, and I hope you'll give generously to help me reach it.

As member of HopeWorks’ Board of Directors, I am so proud of the difference this organization makes for survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence and their families. HopeWorks provides lifesaving and life-changing services including a 24-hour helpline, hospital accompaniment, case management, emergency financial assistance, confidential emergency shelter, support groups, legal advocacy, and community prevention education.

In FY26, HopeWorks served 4,466 people, up from 2,782 in FY25. That's a 61% increase in just one year! But while the need for services is growing, the funding streams HopeWorks relies on from Federal, state, and county grants have become increasingly uncertain.

That's why Purple Challenge gifts matter so much. They provide flexible funding that HopeWorks can use where it is needed most, helping the organization stay ready whenever a survivor reaches out for help. A survivor's need doesn't begin and end with a grant cycle.

Your gift makes a real impact:
• $25 staffs the 24-Hour Crisis Hotline for one hour
• $50 reaches a child in need through prevention education programs
• $150 covers one in-person hospital advocate response
• $500 supports a week-long stay in the Safe House emergency shelter

Every gift, large or small, helps HopeWorks continue its mission to support and advocate for people in Howard County affected by sexual and intimate partner violence. Thank you for standing with survivors and helping build a safer community.
