Hi, I'm Shannon. I'm the Staff Attorney here at HopeWorks. I believe in the work we do here, so I'm asking you to help support it!

Here at HW, it's my job to help people who are navigating the difficult legal decisions and processes around leaving abusive relationships. I primarily support survivors obtaining protective orders. I work with folks every day who are involved in a legal system they never expected to need, and I take seriously the role of making that daunting challenge somewhat more approachable. I also know that many survivors of violence are unable to access an attorney because of financial constraints. I've seen firsthand the impact that providing no-cost legal services has made for my clients.

I'm fundraising for HopeWorks for a few reasons. First, I want to keep doing the work that I do, helping survivors of violence transition to safety and peace. I get to help clients pursue justice, and I get to do that in a way that is accessible and compassionate--a rare find for a new attorney like myself. Other HopeWorks departments provide phenomenal support for clients as they go through all the other necessary transitions, building a community of survivors and supporters in Howard County.
Also, I strongly believe in providing free legal services and meeting clients in court where they most need advocates. I see and hear every day how crucial that presence is. HopeWorks can't do that essential work without essential support.

Every person who helps out at HopeWorks (staff, volunteers, board members, donors) shares a vision that I think--if you've read this long--you can also get behind: a county, a state, maybe even a world one day where intimate partner violence and domestic violence are never tolerated. Every time we hold an abuser accountable, we get a little closer. Let's get to work, y'all!
